On March 10, during the 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) at United Nations Headquarters in New York, a powerful moment in women’s rights advocacy took place. The Women’s Platform for Action International (WoPAI) was officially launched, marking a bold global response to the growing threats facing women and girls worldwide.
Nearly 100 women from across the globe, both in person and online, gathered for this historic event. The room was filled with determination, urgency, and solidarity. It was clear women everywhere are ready to reclaim their voices, their safety, and their rightful place in society.
The speakers at the launch did not shy away from the harsh realities women face today. Women’s rights are being rolled back, the voices of women are increasingly being silenced, and women and girls are being trafficked, sexually exploited, and murdered simply because they are female. In this global context, the creation of WoPAI is not just timely it is essential.
Weavers of Hope on the Global Stage
Participating in CSW69 and contributing to the launch of WoPAI marks an important milestone for Weavers of Hope. It affirms that our work at the community level is deeply connected to a global movement for justice and equality. Our presence reinforced that our stories, our struggles, and our solutions matter. It also strengthened our commitment to continue weaving hope, resilience, and opportunity into the lives of women and girls who need it most.
In our keynote address, Weavers of Hope emphasized the urgent need for collective action, intergenerational leadership, and unwavering solidarity. Our president shared insights from Weavers of Hope’s work supporting women in vulnerable communities and highlighted the importance of linking grassroots activism with global advocacy to achieve lasting change.
Our message resonated deeply: every woman deserves dignity, protection, and a life free from violence and discrimination. Women’s safety and equality are not negotiable they must be protected, defended, and advanced every single day.
